Digital World Agents on Fire

What's coming and why you should be a DW Agent on Fire:

United States - Economic forecast summary (November 2017) --

Source:  OECD.org

The economic expansion is projected to continue in 2018 and 2019. Buoyant asset prices and strong business and consumer confidence will support consumption and investment growth. The impact of slowing employment growth on consumption will be partly offset by wage growth acceleration as the labour market tightens further.
Fiscal policy is projected to become more supportive in 2018 as measures are assumed to be introduced lowering tax rates on corporate and personal income and stimulating investment and consumption. At a time when unemployment is at its lowest level since 2000, the assumed fiscal boost will also contribute to further wage growth, thereby providing the conditions for monetary policy to continue normalising gradually. Policies to help people return to employment would underpin stronger growth of activity while reducing inequalities. Deregulation and tax reform would support stronger investment and help lift productivity.

Cyber Monday is shaping up to be the largest online shopping day in U.S. history

Source

Online sales soared to record highs this Thanksgiving weekend, as more Americans used their smartphones and tablets to shop from home.
More than half of the weekend’s online purchases were placed on mobile devices, according to data from Adobe Analytics, which measures online transactions by the 100 largest U.S. Web retailers. Visits to physical stores, meanwhile, fell as many retailers offered the same deals online as they did in-store.
As of 10 a.m. Monday, Americans had spent nearly $14 billion online since Thanksgiving Day, when many companies started their Black Friday sales. More than half of those purchases came from mobile devices, Adobe reported.
The company added that Cyber Monday was expected to be the biggest online shopping day in history. As of 10 a.m., retailers had racked up $840 million in online sales, a 17 percent increase from last year.

Quick and nimble -- that's DW!

Here is the payment processing industry according to BI:

The payments industry had a huge year in 2014 and it's showing no sign of slowing down. On the one hand tech giants like Amazon and Apple released new products that affirmed their long-term payments ambitions (Apple Pay and Amazon Local Register). On the other hand startups such as Stripe and ShopKeep continued to carve out market share, challenging older players like PayPal and VeriFone.  Understanding this complex and rapidly evolving space can be challenging. In its explainer, BI Intelligence offers a high-level look at the payments industry — how it functions, who the key players are, and the trends shaping the industry.

Here are some of the key takeaways:
  • The ecosystem for credit- and debit-card processing involves a complicated set of players interacting to process every transaction. Five types of players are involved: acquirers/processors, issuers, card networks, gateway providers, and independent sales organizations (ISOs).
  • To process a typical transaction, three steps must occur: authorizing, batching, and funding. Each participant in this process takes a fee off of the total volume of a transaction. The remainder is deposited in a merchant's account.
  • Three trends will shape the payment-card-processing ecosystem from 2015 onward: the EMV security migration, rapid development of new payment technologies, and the massive card-fraud problem in the US.
  • The mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) is going to have a massive impact on the payments-hardware and payments-software industry. By 2019, we forecast that nearly 80% of US retailers will have implemented a mPOS device.

Stock market jitters?

2:06
Stocks took a stomach-turning dive on Monday, sending the Dow Jones industrial average down more than 1,000 points in a matter of seconds. The market recovered some of its losses but was still way down for the day.

Investors around the world are worried about China, the world's second-largest economic power and a huge market for American products. China devalued its currency two weeks ago and has shown other signs of economic weakness.
Two hours into trading, the Dow was down 454 points, or 2.8 percent, at 16,005. At its worst point, just after the opening bell, the Dow was down an eye-popping 1,089 points, or 6.6 percent.
"Fear has taken over," Adam Sarhan, CEO of the investment company Sarhan Capital, told CNBC. "The market topped out last week."
Get live market quotes from CNBC
Last week was the worst for the market in four years, and the Dow had already entered what is known as a correction, down more than 10 percent from its all-time high, reached in May.
On Monday, the Standard & Poor's 500 index, a broader gauge of the overall market, was down more than 5 percent before recovering, and the Nasdaq, loaded with technology stocks, was down more than 8 percent.
In percentage terms, the drop in the Dow, even at its worst point on Monday, was not nearly as severe as in historic stock market crashes. In 1987, on what came to be known as Black Monday, the Dow fell by 22 percent.
But the free-fall was more than enough to get investors' attention. It also got the attention of Lawrence Summers, the former treasury secretary.

REMEMBER:  OUR INDUSTRY HAS NEVER HAD  A DOWN QUARTER!

With DWP you're on a pretty boring ride:  it's only  ever gone up.

Headline News from PaymentsNews - August 3, 2015

On the Web:
  • In Papua New Guinea, Mobile Banking Brings Savings and Safety to Farmers - IFC - "Farmers can now get paid electronically – through their mobile phones. It’s cheaper and faster. The mobile banking service, pioneered by Bank South Pacific’s subsidiary, BSP Rural, allows buyers to transfer payments to growers’ bank accounts via text messages on their mobile phones."
Barb's PERSPECTIVE:

My dad was an aircraft mechanic in WWII stationed several years in Papua, NG.  There were headhunting cannibals there then (barely before I was born) and now they have farmers banking through their cell phones?!! Change is  happening, Kids!  Almost can't compre'nde!   I mean, you've GOTTA admit -- that's a BIG change in one generation.
Better put on your traveling shoes and  get ready for the next generation!

AND FURTHERMORE.....

http://www.paymentscardsandmobile.com/kpmg-mobile-banking-usage-to-double-in-4-years/

The number of global mobile banking users is set to double to 1.8 billion over the next four years, according to research by KPMG, using primary survey data supplied by UBS Evidence Lab.

Mobile banking is set to soar over the next four years
KPMG’s “Global Mobile Banking Report” states that although the mobile channel is already the largest channel by volume of transactions, its adoption by new customers is now entering an exceptionally rapid phase, and is estimated to comprise over 25% of the world’s population in the next four years,
