More Merchants

MORE ON MERCHANTS:

From new Agent Russell Blake, NC:

1. Barbara and Mike. Good news. I got my first merchant today! Donna and I are working together and taking turns at approaches. It was a walk in and we just happened to be there at the right time! Avita was very helpful! The merchant was very helpful and thanked me several times and they did not even know what they were being charged. It turns out we are saving them $400 a month. We are so excited! DWP is working to get them the processor by Friday! --Russell in Billy's group in North Carolina!

2.  We are amazed at the power of this business and potential! Even just a little effort today turned into a $2 million dollar a year merchant ready to sign up! It took 4 hours to get paperwork completed, but it was all done on one walk in! Wow! Talk about amazing!

From Agent Cora Mandapat, a Mission:

Cora called  yesterday afternoon. She had dropped in to a dry cleaners to meet the owner and give him the brochure. He practically collapsed on her when she told him that she would like to inquire about his merchant card processing because she can give him a free terminal and save him money.  He told Cora that a few months back a woman called and  told him she was a single mom trying to raise her children at home and she works with a credit card processing company, then gave him a hard sales pitch.   He was a little bit dubious because he didn't know her but his English is not that great and she was very insistent so he went ahead and signed the contract.  The contract he signed said 1% with 7cents/transaction ad she assured him that was correct.

Actually, on $11,000 card-present transactions they charge him over $1,300. So his rate is effectively $5/transaction. He  consulted a lawyer who told him there was nothing to be done -- the contract is for four years.   He contacted the lady to cancel and she told him he'll have to pay  $9,000 to cancel.   He's heartsick,  upset, and as he told Cora,  this is killing him.
Cora's mission was simply to hand out DWP brochures everyday as she goes about her work day, but the mission is going a little bit deeper now.   How can Cora get help for this Chinese merchant?   Tune in tomorrow!

Salary Information

  • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics includes merchant credit card sales agents in the broad category of "Securities, Commodities and Financial Services Sales Agents." The median wage for these professionals was $70,190 in 2010. The middle 50 percent of workers in this category made between $40,860 and $124,450. As a general rule, merchant services sales agents earn in the lower half of this wage scale, between $40,000 and $70,000. Their services don't carry the large volume a successful commodities broker might.

Regional Data

  • The highest demand for workers in this category in 2010 was in New York, California, Texas, Illinois and Florida. The highest wages earned by these professionals in that year were in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Illinois and Delaware. Sales agents willing to move would do well to consider Illinois or New York, as they appear on both regional lists.

Commissions and Carryover

  • A large portion of a merchant credit card sales agent's income is derived from commissions -- a percentage of the money their sales earn for the company. In many merchant credit card sale positions, the agent also gets continuing income from sales that continue to pay his parent company. Over the course of years, this can add up to significant income as the commissions begin to "stack" up.

It is worth noting that these stats are a bit dated AND reflect only what  agents are making BY THEMSELVES, not with the leverage-compounded effect that the DWP plan offers!
